GREENHOUSES VISIT
Which are and what contain these beautiful constructions characterizing the garden landscape?
First of all, the tropical greenhouse, which is the most striking in photos, is the most important both for its historical and architectural value. It was built in the middle of the XIX century. It is the first Spanish building with iron and glass as main materials. Inside the room, you will be struck by the lush vegetation adapted to this climate type, such as typical lianas of rainforests, epiphytic plants living in trees’ branches, and the wide range of giant leaves asking to capture the scarce light reaching this undergrowth.
Right in front of it, there are four smaller iron and glass greenhouses, with the same design as the big one. Formerly, they were used to produce more plants later moved to different collections of the garden. After the restoration, they have been enabled as exhibition spaces open to the public. They are currently occupied by: orchids, which, with something like 20,000 species, constitute one of the largest families in the plant kingdom; carnivorous plants, who live in places whit very poor nutrients soil; ferns, the oldest vascular plants as the first ones who colonized the terrestrial environment; bromeliads, a large and characteristic family that includes tropical pineapple; carnations of the air and different kinds of indoor ornamental plants.

The walk follows through the Caseta del Romero and the raft greenhouse
The Caseta del Romero was built at the end of the XIX century, as the four greenhouses above, and restored a century later. Formerly, it was the ferns stove but later was used for succulent plants cultivation. The outdoor collection of desert plants is there completed and it welcomes succulent plants sensitive to low temperatures. To conclude, we move to a charming corner of the garden, the balsa. There, we will find the greenhouse with this name and a selection of tropical palms.

The Botànic hosts Del Jardí al bosc, a painting exhibition by the visual artist Victoria Chezner. The fact of moving from the garden to the wood implies a personal evolution process over time; which, in turn, involves a slow and observant immersion in different landscapes. A searching and encountering process: emotional searching and inner nature encounter. In this project, thus, Victoria Chezner starts from the cultural character of the landscape, showing both a panoramic and detailed, also contextual and individual view. The drawing, painting, and colorwork convey that commitment to nature.
